From long distances to the nearest hospital to provider shortages and systemic inequities, rural OB care stands at the intersection of some of the most pressing issues in modern health care. And this is no exception in Maine and New Hampshire, which have seen a significant increase in closures of OB services in rural areas.
In the latest episode, COO Kelly Elkins is joined by Jennifer McKenna, MD and Jeanette Andrews, MD, two MaineHealth OB/GYN physicians and advocates with firsthand experience in addressing these challenges. The program focused on the evolving healthcare landscape, and how ambulatory service centers (ASCs) serve our patients and our health system today and into the future. The panel discussed the many benefits the MaineHealth Surgery Center Scarborough offers by managing demand capacity, delivering streamlined care delivery, positive outcomes, and a lower cost model. They also discussed future ASC plans at MaineHealth.
